Operational Capability The combination of small size, low cost and high quality analytical performance will facilitate wide-scale distribution for unlimited applications and dense networking. Upon completion our device will:

• Fingerprint fundamental vibrations (3800-400 cm ^-1) with 1/2cm^-1 resolution assuring highly reliable identification of chemical compounds

• Measure absorption of solids, liquids or gasses; quantify compounds in mixtures; work in contact or non-contact modes without sample preparation. The novel mode of data acquisition will assure fast measurement (<5s) and accurate identification

• Will be expandable to FT-Raman, GPS & wireless data transmission ready; Will require no external computer or consumables

• Require minimal training to operate

• Have the life-expectancy of a CD player (years) - no need for factory maintenance
